The team at Graphable is always looking for ways to advance our mission and add depth to our talent reserves. As such, we are proud to announce that Dr. Lee Hong will be joining our team as the Director of Data Science. With a considerable resume, Dr. Hong is the former Director of Data Science for L Brands and also served as the Data Science Manager for Capgemini, an elite consulting firm. Additionally, Dr. Hong’s academic experience extends to Ohio University, where he was an Associate Professor of Neurophysiology.
Our intent in hiring Dr. Hong was centered on our desire to move further into the realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI). As a recognized Graph database and Graph Data Science expert, it is Dr. Hong who will drive these efforts.
“I am excited to be joining a team that is truly looking to stretch the boundaries of graph databases and analytics in business and science along the intersection between human neuroscience and cognition with data science,” said Dr. Hong, an alumnus of Liverpool John Moores University, Ithaca College, and Penn State University. In the latter two institutions, Dr. Hong holds both a Master of Science degree and a PhD, respectively.
At Graphable, Dr. Hong will be charged with leading the team responsible for driving Graph Data Science and ML / AI / NLP. His role will be focused on building out knowledge graphs with unstructured data.
“I am looking forward to building out a world-class Graph Data Science practice that will leverage the most advanced thinking in the science of physical and biological networks to drive real business value with augmented and artificial intelligence that delivers immediate value as well as long-term return on investment,” noted Dr. Hong.
It is anticipated that graph databases will continue to become the focal point for unlocking the power of AI, by combining graph database technology that underpins nearly all connected analytics use cases with the future of network science research.
Peter W. Battaglia of Google’s Deep Mind unit recently published a paper in partnership with his colleagues at MIT, Google Brain, and the University of Edinburgh. Entitled, “Relational inductive biases, deep learning, and graph networks,” Battaglia states, “Human cognition makes the strong assumption that the world is composed of objects and relations…and because graph networks [graph databases] make a similar assumption, their behavior tends to be more interpretable.”
Indeed, Dr. Hong seeks to make a big impact at Graphable in this domain— and our entire team is looking forward to seeing just what the future holds.
